Larnik

Kinaznautsa — the shared film catalog

Search TMDB from inside Larnik and put films and series straight into your lists — one shared catalog of references, not copies.

Кіназнаўца — "the one who knows cinema". Kufaryk's sibling, built the opposite way round: a Kufaryk object is the data you typed, while a Kinaznautsa film is a reference. You find the film; Larnik remembers only which film it was — once, for everybody on this Larnik.

One catalog, shared by everyone

There is no personal shelf: your lists are your collection. The first person to put Dune into a list catches it into the shared catalog, and everyone after them picks the same entry. The catalog records titles, years and posters — not who added what.

What is yours stays yours: your movie fields and the values you type into them, your ratings, and the numbers on each card. Nobody else's lists count towards them.

Using it

Open ▦ → 🎬 Kinaznautsa on the home screen and type a title — adding the year helps, as in dune 2021. Results come back as poster cards; a ✓ in catalog badge means somebody here has already added it. + List puts a film into one of your lists (or a list shared with you to edit). A series offers Seasons… instead, because each season goes into a list as its own entry. Clicking a card opens the full record, which has the same + Add to a list… button.

The catalog sits below the results. All shows every title anyone here has added; In my lists narrows it to the films your own lists hold, and the filter box narrows by title. Each card shows how many items in your own lists link to the film, how many of those are done, and — once you have a per-item rating field — your average rating, all computed live.

If TMDB cannot be reached, search still finds what is already in the catalog and says so, and those films go into lists as usual.

Taking a film out

There is no button to remove a film from the catalog, because it may be in somebody else's lists. To take a film out of your collection, delete the list item or unlink it. Entries that no list uses any more may be cleaned up from time to time; a search brings any of them back exactly as before.

Linking items to films

Two ways in, the same two as Kufaryk: 🎬 Movies next to the add-item box creates a new item already linked to a film, and ✎ → 🎬 Link to a movie… links an item you already have. The picker opens on the catalog, so a film anyone here has added is one tap away; typing searches the catalog and TMDB together. Both need Kinaznautsa switched on for that list (⚙ → Modules, off on every new list), and + List in the catalog offers only lists where it is on.

A linked item's title is a live read of the film — rename the film and every linked item follows. Its notes stay its own: "rewatch with subtitles" belongs to that item, not to the film. The item card shows the poster as a thumbnail and a 🎬 chip with the year. Unlink from the same ✎ modal to get an ordinary editable title back.

Items on a Verhavod board can link to films too, once the board's owner switches Kinaznautsa on for the board.

Movie fields

⚙ in the 🎬 header defines fields that apply to every film in the catalog, as you see it. Nobody else sees your fields or the values you type, even on the same film. There are two sources:

  • From TMDB — the value is read from the film and you never type it: Year, Release date, Country, Genres, Director, Writers, Cast, Runtime, TMDB rating, TMDB votes, Original title, Tagline, Overview, IMDb id, Homepage.
  • My own — a name and a type, exactly like a list field, with the value typed by you either once per film or once per list item.

Each field also says where it shows — on the film's card, on the list items linked to it, or both. A per-item rating field is what lets each viewing carry its own score while the film's card shows the average.

What is actually stored

Four columns per catalog entry: the provider id, the title, the year and the poster's path. Everything else — cast, crew, genres, runtime, overview, ratings and the poster image itself — is fetched from TMDB when you look at it and parked in a cache that expires on its own and prunes itself. A small facts snapshot per film is kept so that a catalog of two hundred cards showing a Director field does not mean two hundred lookups.

So five hundred films cost kilobytes, the details are never stale, and backups stay small. The honest trade-off: browsing a film's details needs the server to reach TMDB. When it cannot, the detail view still opens against the stored columns and says what happened.

What it deliberately does not do

  • Nothing personal in the catalog. In a shared list everyone sees the same linked films; the columns are the list owner's movie fields.
  • No import or export of catalog entries: a search rebuilds them in a second.
  • No trash for catalog entries, for the same reason. A movie field is the exception and does go to the trash, with every value you typed into it.

Like Kufaryk, Kinaznautsa is switched on per list (⚙ → Modules). If 🎬 Kinaznautsa is missing from the ▦ menu, it is turned off for this Larnik. If the screen opens but cannot search, this Larnik is not connected to TMDB yet, and the screen says so.
